Voices For Children CASA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a community based board of directors. It was established in 1985 by Boulder members of the Junior League of Denver in cooperation with the Boulder County Bar Association. The agency recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who work as CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates). CASA volunteers advocate for and provide services to child victims of abuse and neglect.
When abuse and neglect is substantiated an attorney, known as a Guardian ad litem or GAL, is appointed to represent the best interests of the child. The GAL calls Voices For Children CASA and requests that a CASA volunteer be assigned to the specific case.
Voices for Children CASA maintains a pool of about 100 active CASAs. About 25% of the CASAs have been with the agency for more than five years. In 2008 CASA volunteers were assigned to 96 cases and provided services to 187 maltreated children and youth
