Did You Know?

Voices for Children CASA has helped over 2,000 abused and neglected children in Boulder County find safe permanent homes since we opened our doors in 1985.

VFC CASA Lifelong Connections Program

Imagine for a moment what it would be like to suddenly be without a home, family, money, identification, or a job. It is difficult to imagine, yet this is the reality many youth aging out of the Colorado child welfare system face when they turn 18.

Did you know that each year in Colorado approximately 500 youth "age out" of foster care? Studies show that the outlook for these youth is grim. Nearly a third of foster children will become homeless within the first year after they leave the system at the age of 18. Unemployment rates for youth aging out of the system are estimated at 50%.

The Voices For Children CASA Lifelong Connection Program enhances services to youth aging out of the system. Our goal is to find family or other significant adults who will agree to maintain regular contact with youth. Often beginning with internet searches for relatives, the process continues with structured and proven techniques to engage potential adult connections and help them make realistic decisions on how to be involved in a child's life. If a child has at least one dependable and caring adult in his or her life, that can be the anchor that sees them through even the most challenging times.
