HHS Releases Statistics on Child Abuse and Neglect

The US Department of Health and Human Services has released Child Maltreatment 2008, an annual report of data collected from the state child protective services (CPS) agencies. According to the new report an estimated 772,000 children were found to be victims of abuse or neglect during 2008. Who abused and neglected children?

Approximately 80 percent (80.1%) of perpetrators of child maltreatment were parents, and another 6.5 percent were other relatives of the victim;
Of the perpetrators who were parents, approximately 90 percent (90.9%) were the biological parent of the victim;
Women comprised a larger percentage of all perpetrators than men, 56.2 percent compared to 42.6 percent; and
Slightly more than 75 percent (75.2%) of all perpetrators were younger than age 40

Kahuna Beach Party Concert - August 7, 2010

Come dance to the sounds of the Kahuna Beach Party Band on Saturday August 7th from 6-9pm at the Twenty Ninth Street Mall. Enjoy all of your favorite Beach Boy tunes: Little Deuce Coupe, I Get Around, Good Vibrations and Surfin' USA.

Boulder Creek Events, sponsor of the Twenty Ninth Street LIVE! Summer Concert Series, selected VFC CASA as the featured nonprofit for the Kahuna Beach Party concert. VFC CASA will receive 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of beverages at the event and Boulder Creek Events will match that percentage dollar for dollar. Come to the concert, listen to great music, dance and have a cool summer drink while supporting a great cause!

And The Winner Is...

Congratulations Patricia Zulauf! Patricia came within just a few ounces of guessing the correct weight of the watermelon at the VFC CASA Rhythm on the River "Guess the weight of the watermelon" contest. Pat won a $25.00 gift certificate which was donated by Lucile's Creole Cafe. A special thank you to Lucile's for their generous donation and support of VFC CASA.
