About the Growing Your Child Program

More than half of the child abuse and neglect cases to which CASA volunteers are assigned involve child neglect.

Research shows that child neglect often occurs because parents have unrealistic expectations for their infants. The Growing Your Child program was developed as a child neglect prevention effort.

Each year approximately 500 parents of newborns within Boulder County and the surrounding area enroll in the Growing Your Child program.

Parents receive information about infant developmental milestones, activities to do with their babies, and parent self-care for the first two years of their children's lives. Parents residing in Boulder County also receive a soft toy for registering and a children's story book after the first year of participation in the program

To the best of our knowledge, in the years since the GYC program began, only two of the families who received materials have come into the child welfare system.

Growing Your Child registration packets are distributed by local area hospitals and non-profits who have contact with parents of newborns.
